We're based in Oakville. We work with builders and designers across the GTA every day. Here's what we see specified most — and what actually holds up.

We are based in Oakville. Our showroom is in Oakville. We ship hardware to builders, designers, and homeowners across the GTA every week — Oakville, Burlington, Mississauga, Toronto, Brampton, Hamilton, and beyond. After seeing hundreds of projects across the region, we have a clear picture of what gets specified, what holds up, and what the local market actually wants. Here is our honest read on hardware for GTA custom homes.
What the GTA custom home market specifies
The Oakville and Burlington custom home market skews toward transitional architecture — homes that blend traditional proportions with contemporary finishes and details. This means the hardware sweet spot is finishes and styles that are neither strictly traditional nor strictly contemporary: satin brass, unlacquered brass, matte black, and oil-rubbed bronze dominate, with satin nickel holding strong in the mid-market and polished nickel appearing occasionally in high-end traditional builds.
The custom home builders we work with most often specify Emtek for door hardware — it hits the right quality level for a custom build without requiring the lead times of European imports — and Top Knobs or Schaub & Company for cabinet hardware.
The renovation market
The GTA renovation market — kitchen and bath renovations in established Oakville, Burlington, and Mississauga neighbourhoods — most often lands on:
- Matte black cabinet pulls replacing outdated polished brass or chrome
- Satin brass as a warmer alternative to satin nickel in transitional kitchens
- New exterior entry sets in matte black or satin brass to modernize a dated front door
For renovation projects specifically, we recommend visiting the showroom with photos of the existing cabinetry and millwork — finish coordination is much easier when we can see what we are working with.
What holds up in Canadian conditions
Canadian exterior hardware faces freeze-thaw cycling, road salt in the air near streets, and significant temperature ranges. The durability difference between quality and budget hardware is most pronounced on exterior applications. Emtek deadbolts and entry sets with PVD finishes hold up significantly better than plated or painted alternatives over Canadian winters. Unlacquered brass on exterior doors will patina quickly due to environmental exposure — which some clients love and others find alarming. Know your client before specifying living finishes for exterior use.
Lead times and local stock
We maintain stock of the most commonly specified hardware from our core brands, which means most standard Emtek and Top Knobs orders ship within 1–2 weeks. For special-order finishes, European imports, or large-quantity builder orders, plan for 4–14 weeks depending on the product. We can confirm lead times at the time of specification — call or visit before the timeline gets tight.
