How Warranties Work
Every piece of hardware we sell carries the manufacturer's own warranty, which passes through to you as the original purchaser. VK Hardware will assist you in facilitating any claim — we handle the paperwork, the photos, and the back-and-forth with the brand on your behalf.
To start a warranty claim, email info@vk-hardware.ca with your order number, a description of the issue, and clear photos of the affected piece and its packaging. We'll respond within 1 business day and walk you through the next steps.
Warranty by Brand
The table below summarises each brand's warranty. Full terms are available from the manufacturer on request — for specifics on a particular finish or finish age, get in touch and we'll share the exact policy.
| Brand | Warranty period | Coverage notes |
|---|---|---|
| Emtek | Lifetime limited (residential) | Polished Brass, Polished Nickel, Satin Brass Stainless Steel: lifetime finish. Most other finishes: 5-year finish. Living finishes (Patina, Unlacquered Brass, Rust): no finish warranty (intentional patina). Electronic components: 2 years. |
| Top Knobs | Lifetime | Defects in materials and craftsmanship for the original consumer purchaser, while you own the product. |
| Schaub & Company | Limited lifetime | Structural integrity for the original purchaser. Finish warranties vary by finish — living finishes (oil-rubbed, antique) are designed to patina and are not covered for that aging. |
| Atlas Homewares | Lifetime | Defects in material and craftsmanship for the original consumer purchaser, while owned. Excludes outdoor use, corrosive air, and normal wear. |
| Colombo Design | 10–30 years on finish | Standard finishes (Chrome, Matt Chrome, Matt White, Matt Black, Oroplus): 10 years. HPS-treated finishes (Zirconium Gold, Matt Gold, HPS/1 Stainless Steel, Vintage, Graphite, Matt Graphite): 30 years. |
| VK Hardware | 10-year mechanical, 5-year finish | Mechanical defects (structural integrity, hardware function) for 10 years from purchase. Finish defects (plating, coating, colour stability) for 5 years from purchase. Residential use only; living finishes and normal patination not covered. |
| Du Verre | Lifetime | Defects in materials and craftsmanship for the original consumer purchaser. |
| Häfele | 1 year to lifetime | Architectural hardware: 1 year. Furniture fittings range from 2 years to lifetime depending on the specific product line. |
| Amerock | Lifetime | Defects in material and workmanship for as long as the original purchaser owns the product. |
| Taymor | Lifetime (residential) | Defects in materials and workmanship for the original consumer purchaser, while you own the home where the product was originally installed. Finish damage from atmospheric conditions or chemical cleaners is not covered. |
| MYOH | Decorative: lifetime. Functional: 1 year. Finishes vary. | Polished Nickel and Bright Chrome (over brass): lifetime finish. Limited Finish Warranty products: 5 years interior / 1 year exterior. Excludes incorrect installation or excessive load. |
| L'Hermitage | Contact us for specifics | Warranty coverage is handled directly with the manufacturer; reach out and we'll get exact terms for your piece. |
| Pomelli Designs | 30-day defect replacement | Defective or wrongly delivered items can be exchanged within 30 days of receipt; product must be unused, in original packaging. |
| PullCast | Limited — defects only | PullCast will replace or repair confirmed manufacturing defects. No warranty on finish changes from aging, light exposure, sharp object damage, prolonged humidity, or imprinting from writing instruments. Defective parts must be returned to PullCast in original packaging. |
What Warranties Typically Don't Cover
Across virtually every manufacturer, the following are not covered:
- Improper installation — including drilling at the wrong pre-drill diameter, over-tightening, or installing on a substrate the product wasn't designed for
- Commercial use — most warranties are residential-only
- Outdoor or exterior exposure unless the product is explicitly rated for it
- Living finishes (e.g., Unlacquered Brass, Oil-Rubbed Bronze, Patina) — these are designed to age and develop character over time; that aging is not a defect
- Chemical damage from abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals
- Normal wear and tear from everyday use
- Accidental damage, alteration, or misuse
- Labour costs for removal and reinstallation
Caring for Living Finishes
Several brands we carry — Emtek, Schaub, Top Knobs, and others — offer finishes such as Unlacquered Brass, Oil-Rubbed Bronze, Tumbled White Bronze, and various patinas. These are intentionally produced without a clear-coat seal so that they oxidize, patina, and develop a unique character with handling and time. That aging is a feature, not a defect, and is not covered by any manufacturer's finish warranty. If you'd prefer a finish that stays uniform, choose a plated finish like Polished Chrome, Satin Nickel, Polished Nickel, or Matt Black.
How to File a Warranty Claim
- Email info@vk-hardware.ca with your order number, a description of the defect, and clear photos of the issue.
- We'll forward your claim to the manufacturer and respond within 1 business day with next steps.
- The manufacturer will inspect the photos (and sometimes the physical product) to confirm the defect.
- On approval, the manufacturer will issue a repair, replacement, or refund — typically a replacement piece shipped directly to you.
Most warranty resolutions take 2–4 weeks from claim submission to replacement delivery.
